Haai Starts New Label for Emerging Talent
Available digitally, each release will also have a very limited vinyl run
Aussie-born, London-based DJ and producer Haai has launced a new label. Entitled Radical New Theory, it recently kicked off with the Een EP from new talent Ozzy that explores melodic broken beats.
The label is inspired by the fact that during her residency on BBC Radio 1, Mute artist Haai was often sent new music from unknown producers without any label affiliations. Keen to help give the sounds she most admires a platform, Haai intends to release just one EP from each new act, with the hope that they will then go on to bigger things.
“[Ozzy] sent me a message online and I was immediately struck by the maturity of his unreleased body of work,” said Haai. “The timing was perfect as it coincided with the idea of starting a label that would give exposure to new and unreleased artists.”
As well as being available digitally, each release on the label will have a limited vinyl run of just 100.
The former shoegaze musician also runs her own Coconut Beats label and is known for a wide ranging taste that takes in everything from weird Turkish psyche to exotic grooves and ragged techno. Her debut album is due in 2020 and comes after her recent Systems Up, Windows Down EP in late 2019.
