DJ Rocca & Folpower feat Grace Love
I’m Going Higher
(4Quarti Recordings Promo)
Pressed on a white 33⅓ 7” vinyl format, this soulful house banger is a re-rub of Love’s Higher track that was released on the highly respected Cannonball Records in 2017. The original mix is a tad mo’ disco flavoured than this new rub, which so easily could have been laid down for a Marc Evans vocal but fear not, Love serves up some serious soulful shenanigans and the flute solo is the icing on the house cake.
The Edwards Generation
(Cordial Recordings Vinyl Album Test Pressing)
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area after relocating from Pittsburgh, Chuck Edwards formed the Edwards Generation in the ’70s. Those of you fortunate enough to own a copy of The Street Thang on Tight Records will be aware of what Edwards and his band of family members are capable of when they set their musical minds to it. This Cordial outing is set for release in September but there are 15 copies up for grabs by contacting Cordial’s Instagram account. This album features ten blistering tracks of previously unreleased material recorded in the ’70s and ’80s. Let’s not bother highlighting individual tracks; in short its ram full of modern soul, funk, soul and boogie pearls that all shine as brightly as each other. Oh, go on then, if I’m pushed the thumpin’ dancer You Can Do It is my stand-out cut here.
Sir Schaba feat Mapule
(Afro Rebel Music Digital Promo)
I’m fairly certain this is from one of the stables overseen by the talented Oscar P outta San Diego, California. An undeniable feast of production excellence, there are three beautiful mixes here, from the deep, gentle, blissful Christian Vinci Remix to the tribal Polyrhythm Dub. The Xewst Tswana Drum Remix does what is says on the tin percussion-wise but combines Mapule’s vocals into the vibraphone heavy mix also. Not that things break out from anything but sweet, soulful business in this trilogy, but Vinci’s mix is the softer sister of the options. Erykah Badu fans will love Mapule’s divine and heavenly delivery, she really is that good.
Runnin’ Away (Glenn Underground Mix)
(Ore Records 10” Vinyl)
Here’s a cheap as chips track from Discogs that you might have missed first time around. It’s naughty, underground house with Nicole belting out some serious soul ranting over an infectious and irresistible groove. With this near minter sitting at 81 pence on Discogs – 81p! – this track is a brilliant way to start collecting vinyl, 10-inchers or to add sommat fresh sounding and special to your collection.
